Mmm...can you imagine? Living in France for a year? I think it's an absolute fantasy. To be honest, France is at the top of my list right now. I just can't stop thinking about soaking in all that art, history and of course, romance. I've been dreaming about visiting France for months.
I'm so biased that I'm not sure I really care about the table but in the interest of being fair, I'll consider the salary.
Apparently there are typically 15-30 hour work weeks. Well, that would be easy! That's not at all full time. The monthly salary ranges from €500-2,000 ($656-2,625 CAD). I'm not sure how anyone could live on €500 a month unless they provide accommodations but this says they're not included. Private tutoring pays €15-25/hour ($20-32). So if you're working 15-30 hours a week, that would be €225-750/week or €900-3000/month. Once again, private tutoring pays significantly more.
I can only imagine being hired as a private tutor. Somehow I can only think of Mary Poppins, which would not at all be the same.

What are apartments like in France? You came to the right place. I visited a website named Green Acres to find listings.
While most things on a rental website remain the same, some of the verbiage is unusual. For instance, they refer to the space available as "habitable surface".
One of the cheapest listings was a 215 sq ft. flat for €180/month ($237 CAD). Although that is terribly cheap, I noticed right away that apartments didn't have much compared to South Korea. In France, cheap apartments have a sink and room for a bed. Pretty simple. Then I saw this one listing and fell head over heels for it. An adorable little cottage in the French countryside. It reminded me of a home I saw in the movie Wild Target. Not in the best shape but full of character. It's rather idyllic.

I think what really makes me think is comparing the prices of apartments where I live with France. It's cheaper in France. So crazy.
As I slowly moved through the listings for really cheap apartments, I came across the first one with a noticeable "mini" kitchen including a mini fridge, two burners and a sink for €250/month ($330). The super cheap apartments are all one room with something resembling a place to prepare "food".
Then there were some surprisingly nice listings for €270 ($356) and €290 ($383). They were a little more spacious and offered somewhat nice views. Another somewhat common theme were rooms with a built in loft for a bed, such as this one and this one, both at €295 ($389).
I have to say, so far I'm just taken away with the idea of living like a bohemian in southern France. I think it must be a fantasy of mine. It would be so much fun to live away from home and re-discover life in a new perspective. France might be the right perspective.
