It's Sunday again! I hope you're all ready to read the next part! In case you've missed the first two segments, here's Part I and Part II.
Let's continue our journey into the unknown...
Arianna felt relieved. She wasn't in a strange place after all, she was home. After hugging her parents and changing into her clothes, she was ready to make the best of her day. She couldn't dilly-dally anymore, she had to explore and have fun. She walked briskly down the bright corridor, her head full of ideas. She knew where she wanted to go and what she wanted to do. Arianna stopped in front of a door and knocked lightly, waiting patiently for a response. The door swung open and there stood one of her siblings, a slightly younger sister. Her bright blue eyes stared back at Arianna, her face indecipherable. Arianna smiled warmly, "Let's go explore," she said, her voice tinged with excitement. The blonde girl stared up at Arianna, her face still unmarked with expression then slowly it sank in and her face exploded with a smile. "Yeah!" she exclaimed, nodding happily.
Arianna smiled back as her sister immediately left her room to join her. Curiously, Arianna stared through the open door to her sister's bedroom. It was as she expected, a complete and utter mess. She shook her head slightly and sighed. "Are we going or what?" the sister shouted impatiently. Arianna nodded and began to walk down the corridor once more. Then they heard a familiar voice ringing down the corridor calling their names, "Arianna, Clarissa..." The sisters turned around and saw their mother coming towards them hand-in-hand with their younger brother. "Arianna, will you please take your brother with you, I'm sure he'd love to explore too". Arianna eagerly agreed, she loved her younger brother dearly. He was just so sweet and innocent. "Thank you girls," their mother smiled fondly, "Have fun exploring!"
Arianna scooped up her brother's hand and smiled, "Come on Ricky". With that their little group seemed complete, each of them ready to explore. They continued down the corridor until they came to a small door at the very end. Arianna stared at it perplexed, "Was that there before?" she asked her sister. Clarissa stared at it, examining it closely before answering, "Yep". Arianna stared at it, unconvinced, "It doesn't look familiar. I really don't think this door was here before..." The two sisters stared at the closed door, each one being convinced of separate opinions. "It's probably just a closet," Clarissa said with a shrug. Arianna remained in thought, there was something odd about this door. It looked different than the other doors. Finally she looked to her little brother, "What do you think Ricky?" she asked inquisitively. Ricky blinked at her then looked at the door, his head turning to the side slightly before he thought of an answer, "New" he said simply.
"See!" Arianna said proudly, "Ricky thinks it's weird too". Clarissa rolled her eyes and felt the pangs of sibling rivalry, "He just said that to agree with you..." Arianna stared at Clarissa, narrowing her eyes. She was just being contrary and in that instant she began to feel regret sinking in, maybe she shouldn't have invited her along. Clarissa sighed audibly, "Let's just open it!" she said impatiently. Immediately she twisted the handle and swung it open, revealing its contents.
A long, unending staircase appeared before them, beckoning them. Arianna and Clarissa stared at it, jaws dropped. Arianna couldn't make sense of it, where did this staircase come from? Immediately Clarissa ran ahead, climbing the stairs excitedly. "Wait!" Arianna shouted after her in futility. She held on to her brother's hand tight and followed her sister up the stairs. "Clarissa, wait for Ricky!" she shouted once more, trying to get her to slow down. Clarissa didn't listen, all she could hear was the blood rushing in her ears as her heart pumped anxiously. She loved exploring. It was her favourite thing to do. Clarissa desperately climbed the stairs faster, trying to make it to the top first. She had to make it first. She had to see what was up there first. Step after step, her legs refused to tire while Arianna had to pause to help Ricky up the stairs. She's so selfish, Arianna thought bitterly while Clarissa was too concerned with her raging curiosity.
Finally, Clarissa saw an end to the mystery staircase. Finally she could see just above the last step. She pushed herself to go a little faster, her curiosity pushing her beyond any physical limits. With one final heave her feet touched the top and she stood proudly, the staircase defeated. "I win!" she shouted triumphantly. Quite a few steps below her stood Arianna, trying to help her little brother up the stairs. His legs were just a little short, making it hard for him to make each step on his own. Arianna felt a twinge of bitterness again, "It's not a competition," she replied quietly. Then Clarissa started shouting wildly, "Hurry Arianna, hurry!" Arianna looked up, trying to decipher what she meant. Was it an emergency? Was she hurt? Was she in danger? Immediately Arianna gripped Ricky's hand tight and sped up, lifting Ricky with each step. Just as her arm began to tire, they reached the top. Clarissa ran over to them, her eyes wide and her voice loud, "Look, look!"
Arianna frowned, she rushed up here to help her sister but it turns it out it wasn't an emergency. She sighs and rubs her arm, feeling it burn from so much lifting. Her brother was by no means easy to lift. Clarissa moved an inch from face and shouted, "Look, Arianna, look!" Arianna winces, "You don't have to yell," she replies, her ears slightly ringing. "LOOK!" Clarissa yells again, her patience wearing thin. Arianna stands her ground and gets ready to yell back when Clarissa grabs her head and turns it, forcing her to look. Before she can object or curse her sister she sees it, she sees what Clarissa was yelling about. The sisters stare, unsure of what to make of it but so excited their bodies can't translate the rush of emotions. Before either of them can stop him, Ricky runs towards it, his heart lifting.
"Ricky!" Arianna shouts after him as she bursts into full chase, ready to save him. "Wait for me!" Clarissa yells angrily.
