Good afternoon, it is once again Storytime Sunday! Today I have written Part V. To be honest, this was one of the more difficult parts for me to write since I had to come up with it on the spot. For anyone just joining us I have a separate page with all the links (Storytime Sunday). If you like you can just read this segment, it will still be interesting.
On to Part V. . .
This couldn't be real. This must be another one of my dreams, Arianna thought to herself. She really did get carried away. Her unconscious would weave such an imaginative yet lifelike tale. This must truly be a dream. Still, how would she know? By the very fact she guessed it was a dream was something of a rarity. Either this was an incredibly realistic dream or this was actually happening.
Denial repeated itself in Arianna's head. Clarissa followed her gaze and saw what made her baffled. Immediately she ran towards the door and felt the urge and desire to throw it open. Arianna moved to her side, panicked, "Don't open it!" Clarissa looked back at her and scrunched her nose, "Why not?" Arianna was speechless. It was obvious, they shouldn't leave.
"We don't know what's..." She stopped herself short, not sure of her words. It was unfathomable. None of this made sense. Like a dream, Arianna thought once more. Ricky, aided by curiosity, lurched forward to the window and stared. In his eyes reflected not fright but instead a sense of undeniable wonder. Deep inside of him something began to grow, very slowly at first like a seed but then something caught his gaze. All at once the wondrous little seed burst and wrapped itself around his heart creating within him a longing to be outside. He walked over to his sisters and watched them argue back and forth. They weren't watching the door anymore. So he stepped forward and turned the little door knob. The door slowly creaked open, letting only a sliver of light inside.
As if by fate a gentle breeze pushed the door open, revealing a stunning forest with delicate streams of light pouring through the thick canopy. All at once the little house was quiet, Arianna, Clarissa and Ricky stood in absolute awe. It was beautiful. It was more than beautiful, it was magnificent. They stood right at the bottom of the trees, among the fallen leaves and needles on the forest floor. Arianna felt her heart pang delicately against her chest as she wept silently. Clarissa grinned happily, eager to explore the forest. However both of them failed to notice Ricky as he crept out of the house and walked onward, not waiting a second longer.
"Are you crying?" Clarissa asked incredulously. She couldn't believe it. That's so stupid, she's way too sensitive, she thought. Arianna quickly brushed away her tears, slightly embarrassed. Then before she could answer she realized something was amiss, "Where's Ricky?" Arianna asked, her voice warbling slightly. Clarissa scanned around them then looked outside and saw him just disappearing around a tree, "There!" The two sisters dashed out of the house and chased after him, calling his name.
Just as they were catching up they saw Ricky descend over a small hill. Arianna and Clarissa leapt after him like a pair of synchronized gazelles. The spaces between the trees began to widen and they saw Ricky standing just beyond their little hill. With a great flurry they ran down and Arianna swung her arms around Ricky tightly. Her heart still raced with panic, the adrenaline only beginning to subside. She held him close and whispered, "Don't do that to us". Ricky squirmed, disliking being hugged so tightly. He half ignored his sisters as he stared ahead.
Clarissa suddenly shouted and yelled so loudly it was incomprehensible. Arianna cringed and scolded her sister, "Don't yell! It hurts my ears!"
"Look! Look!" Clarissa yelled back.
Arianna leaned and gazed past Ricky, her eyes widening. "Is that...?"
"Look!" Clarissa yelled again.
"It's the ocean!" Clarissa yelled triumphantly.
Arianna only shook her head in disbelief as she held Ricky's hand tighter. It couldn't be, she thought. They had never seen the ocean, they wouldn't know what it looked like. How could they have gotten here? Nothing made sense. It was like that little house brought them here but where were they? They were far away from home. "We should get back to the house..." Arianna said nervously, anxious about the new surroundings.
"Why?" Clarissa shouted back, her pant legs already rolled up as she waded into the water. "It's cold!" she yelled. Arianna looked on, her face painted with concern. "Please Clarissa, get out of there! There might be sharks in the water!" Clarissa ignored her as she bent down to pick something up. Arianna watched, almost horrified, "Put that down! You don't know what that is!"
Clarissa didn't care. She loved exploring. She loved touching new things. Everywhere she looked there was something new and interesting to touch. Then she thought of something. With a cupped hand she bent over and scooped up some water. To Arianna's horror, she brought it to her lips and slurped it up. In an instant she spat it out and coughed miserably. "That's gross!"
"Well what do you expect?" Arianna said, her voice laced with a hint of self-righteousness. "Can we go back now?"
Clarissa continued to ignore her. She wasn't done exploring. When she was done they could leave.
Arianna looked down and eyed Ricky. She attempted to read his feelings but his face was blank. He did seem to be trying to squirm out of her grasp however. She adjusted her grip and held his hand a little firmer. She couldn't afford to lose him in a strange place, especially so close to the water. What if he drowned? She would never forgive herself and neither would her family. "Clarissa don't go too far!" Arianna shouted after her.
